“I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt

In some moments, you want nothing more than to hear those words. But you know they’ll never come.

“Anthem for the Underdog” by 12 Stones

I strongly believe that sometimes it’s ok to say “Screw turning the other cheek!” I know, I know. Being the bigger person often means standing as tall as you can (which for me isn’t very tall anyway) and turning your back and walking away.

But once in a great while there are alternative routes to becoming the bigger person. Maybe just once in a great while being the bigger person means slapping that person across their own cheek so hard it brings them to their knees and then verbally kicking them while they’re down. Really I’m not a violent person. And for all you know I mean all of this metaphorically speaking. But honestly. Sometimes supplying that jolt of reality is necessary for the greater good. And really, maybe they’ll thank you for it later. Or maybe not. But in these moments, you can thank yourself enough for the both of you.

“The Glass Parade” by Cary Brothers

Sometimes you feel like you’re waiting for it all to shatter. You wait. Wait for the moment when the shards of glass will shower you, cut you, and leave you wondering why you ever took the chance in the first place.

“Kissing You” by Des’ree

Ok, it happens to the best of us. Sometimes you feel so cozily, smushily, cheddar cheesily happy. It doesn’t matter if it may be short-lived. Or long-lived. Who knows what the future really holds, but what it dangles in front of you for now is momentarily consuming. You lose yourself in the right now. Emotionally.. physically.. spiritually.. mentally..you’re all swaddled up in it. And, for now, you’re warm.

“Splinter” by Sevendust

In some moments the reverb from so many self-serving people trying to persuade you to grant them power can become overwhelming. In some moments you just want everyone to get out of your head.

“Be Ok” by Ingrid Michaelson

Right now this is all you want. Seriously.

Fox Sports NFL Theme Song

Right now you’re comfortably and happily wrapped in a blanket of tradition. On this day, in this moment, you feel hopeful about what the next few hours will have in store for you. Ahh, contentment.

A cool version of a classic song.

You’re facing the unknown. It’s unfamiliar, and drags in a familiar feeling of fright. You’re trapped in a moment somewhere between thoughts of fleeing and thoughts of facing your efreakingnormous fears. You’re afraid, because if you try to face them, you might fail, might be crushed and burned and then disintegrate into nothing. But you might also survive. You might also come out stronger and better and have gained invaluable ass-kicking tips. You’re not sure what will happen. You’re not sure where you’ll go from here. You know the outcome will be extreme, and you have to decide whether to step forward, or to remain hunched in the shadows. But for the moment, you’re stuck somewhere in between.

Happy Halloween!! (Which is apparently today by the way, based on the fact that I live in Utah.)

“Hallelujah” by Paramore

You’ve wiped your slate clean. In this moment, it feels like you’ve gotten a fresh start on life. You can do anything, say anything, be anything. As the water pours over you, you grab your loofa and raise it to the sky as you sing at the top of your lungs.

“Despicable Me” by Pharrell

I generally think old people are incredibly cute. I hope that doesn’t sound condescending, but I do love old people.

But…sometimes, they can harnass the wrath of an entire scorned nation in one single look.

So you’re innocently driving through a parking lot just trying to find an empty stall to park your car’s rear, while dodging those daring/brainless pedestrians who dart out into the street without a single glance your way.

You’re humming a happy tune, when suddenly you brake to accommodate yet another storm of pedestrians flailing out into the street armed with carts, kids and even a body pillow. Bringing up the rear is THE cutest little lady with an awesome ‘fro of snow white. You’re humming still, and as she turns her head your way you prepare to smile at her. But with her one single look laser-beamed directly at you, you shrivel behind the wheel, and in an instant your tune changes to harmonize with the message seemingly shot your way.
